Dear Teacher,

My question is

A: I heard they have beautiful beaches.
B: 1. Yes, they are.
2. You're right!

Which answer is correct and why?

Thanks a lot for your kind assistance.

Hi,

You can say: Yes, they do

They have beautiful beaches
Do they have beautiful beaches?
Yes, they do have beautiful beaches. Here, 'do' makes the response stronger.

The above is just to show where 'do' comes from.

Hi again,

After posting my response, I realized that I had not answered your question completely.

A answer does not sound very well, since the person is saying something that he or she heard. If he or she were saying a statement: 'They have beautiful beaches' someone could answer, 'Yes, you're right'. Since the sentence is: 'I heard they have beautiful beaches' a better answer would be: 'Yes, you heard right.' or 'Yes, that's right.'

B answer does not sound right, either. This answer would be right for the following sentence: 'I heard the beaches are beautiful'.
