I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural. Is it correct to write "switch his shift"?

David switched his shift with one of his colleagues so that David could go and watch a football match.

Without repeating 'David', it's not clear which of them was going to the match, unless you recast the sentence.

'Wanting to go to a football match, David swapped shifts with a colleague.'

I would interpret it as meaning that David was going to the match, which seems the natural choice. If the colleague went, I would rephrase the sentence.
