I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

David worshipped his wife as if she were a saint until he found a bunch of letters sent to her by her lover. The first dated more than five years back. He felt like a fool, furious at his naivety.

I'd use "The first was dated more than/over five years ago". BrE tends to use "ago" more than "back" in this context.
