Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

He had lived for about eight years of his life, quite alone, at this charming place, scarcely seeing a Christian face except twice a year, when the detachment arrived to carry off the revenues which he had collected, to Calcutta.

detachment = the dispatch of a military unit, such as troops or ships, from a larger body for a special duty or mission

Thank you for your efforts.

Regards,

V
