Hi everybody!
I am a translator in a hosting company and very often have to deal with various IT terms.
Could anybody explain the deference between these phrases - "allocate IP address" and "assign IP address"?
Thank you!

Hi, welcome to the forums. There is no difference in meaning between "allocate" and "assign" in those examples.

hi,
hi,
That's what the ipv6 specification says about them two terms.
2.5. Allocate

To allocate means to distribute address space to IRs(Internet Registry) for the purpose
of subsequent distribution by them.

2.6. Assign

To assign means to delegate address space to an ISP (internet service provider )or end-user, for
specific use within the Internet infrastructure they operate.
Assignments must only be made for specific purposes documented by
specific organizations and are not to be sub-assigned to other
parties.
