As far as I am concerned, and judging from the way you ask it, I could say that you have some problems with Phrasal Verbs. Those are verbs followed by prepositions. These prepositions change the meaning of the verb, let`s see:

Shut: to close
Shut up: to stop talking

Come: verb expressing movement towards a specified place or person
Come down with: To catch an illness, to become ill

Match: to be similar
Match up: to coincide or have a similar configuration
