I need to write a sign indicating the name of a facility in a youth campsite.

This facility has a dance floor, psychedelic lights and a powerful HI-Fi but nothing else, which means: no drinks, no tables or chairs etc. So, the children go there exclusively to dance.

The first name that came to my mind was “Disco”. But I’ve already learned that it’s considered old-fashioned and certainly in disuse.

The second was “Dance Hall” which I dropped for identical reasons

Then word “Club” came up too, but the fact of it being so unspecific regarding the kind of club a facility under such a sign would be, led me to consider more favourably the term “Night club” instead. Being more specific, this one might have worked, were it not because I perceived a whiff of alcoholic drinks in the term.

Finally, I’m pondering “Dance club”. This one I know not whether it is appropriate or not.

Being myself only an intermediate English student, I’d appreciate if anyone could give me some input on this matter.

Thank you.

It's an interesting problem.
I agree that "Disco" is no longer current.
And "Dance Hall" sounds like something from the 1940s.
"Night club" is not right for the reasons you give.

What about having some fun with other languages?

Club Bailando
Tanzen Hall
Otherwise, I think "Dance Hall" is your best bet, even with its old-fashioned sense.

How about the rather silly (but I like it!) "Boogy Room"!

I’m sorry I forgot to tell you that the sign is intended to display the Max Occupancy of the place.

Not being a native speaker I’m not quite sure about this, but Bogie Hall seems a bit informal to me. So, even though I’d never come across this expression before, I've got the feeling that it’d be a bit weird if the inscription read “Bogie hall: Maximum occupancy 169 people”, wouldn’t it?

Otherwise, I'm of the opinion that it'd would be a very proper name for a youth disco.

I said "Boogy", not "Bogie"! Boogy/Boogie is a casual term meaning dance.

I don't see what difference having the maximum occupancy added to the sign makes. You wouldn't have a colon between the two and they wouldn't be in the same size font. I'd envisage it looking something like this:

Boogy Room

(Max Occupancy: 169 people)

How about "ballroom"? If the facility is for dancing only, I think "ballroom" is the closest to what is considered a non-alcoholic facility. You can certainly use "disco" if you intend to play mostly disco in that room. Of course, disco is out of favor for a while now.

I don't like any of the above suggestions, but can't offer any alternatives.

Let's all ask any children of our acquaintance in the age-range what they would like to call it.

Nothing really springs to mind, but if it's for kids, I'd use Disco.
