Hi,

I have difficulty understanding the underlined sentence. Could anyone do me a favor?

The shift to address the cultrual dynamics of hegemony displaces a range of different formulations of 'dominant ideology', most of which hold thae news discourse be theorized as concealing or masking the true origins of economic antagonisms, that is, their essential basis in the class struggle.

Thanks a lot.

I can only make the most general kind of guess on what it is about. Perhaps if I had considerably more context I could do better.

How about this:

The change to deal with the cultural implications of hegemony brings up a number of different definitions for 'dominant idelogy'.

This is another example of rather contorted, dare I say it, somewhat pretntious prose, designed to look and sound acdemic rather than saying a great deal, using a lot of empty phrases. I've tried to create a simpler meaning out of it- I hope it helps. ;-)

The use of terms like "hegemony" and "class struggle" strikes me as Marxism, possibly with a Chinese flavor.

It sounds like the dead prose that is reducing much of modern liberal academia to an irrelevant, tedious indulgence. Sadly. ;-(

That would make an excellent sound bite.
