A Distress sale is an urgent sale of an asset in order to recover capital lost. It might be a business that needs money quick!

Hi Bushwhacker,

distress = the act of seizing goods by permission of a court of law, esp. by a landlord to obtain payment of rent in arrear. Also by a rate-collector or tax-collector to obtain payment of arrears, and by an officer of the court to obtain payment of unpaid fines.

distress selling = selling which is forced and often therefore at a low price, such as the stock of a bankrupt business in liquidation, or of the death of the owner of property or, by court order, to pay debts.

Regards.

V.
