hello,

GRAMMAR QUESTION:

Do I have to use the second preposition "by" in the following sentence or can I skip it? How is it correct grammatically?

He was characterized by his virtues not by his gentility.

He was characterized by his virtues, not by his gentility
He was characterized by his virtues, not his gentility.
