Hi everybody, I have a question.

Do these sentences mean the same?

No other boy in this class is as smart as the boy.
No other boy is as smart as the boy in this class.

I think the first means "the boy is the smartest in this class," and the second "The boy in this class is the smartest of all (in the world!)." So the second is unacceptable.

Thanks in advance.

the 1st sentence is not the same as the 2nd one becouse the first one tells that there is only one particular boy that really smart but in the 2nd sentence tell that thre are more than one, to be precice the whole class, soo both of the sentence is not the same.bye

Hi everybody, I have a question.

Do these sentences mean the same? No

No other boy in this class is as smart as the boy. ...as smart as which boy? It's better to say '....as (that)(this) boy.'
No other boy is as smart as the boy in this class. This sentence means there is only one boy in this class.

I think the first means "the boy is the smartest in this class," :tick:and the second "The boy in this class is the smartest of all (in the world!). :tick:" So the second is unacceptable. It's acceptable if you really mean that the boy in this class is the smartest boy in the world. (but you can never really know who is the smartest boy in the world)

Thanks in advance.
