Do you mind if / would you mind if

Hello together,

I have a little question. At time I learn english in my practice book of my schooltime. There is a cloze which I have to complete. By one sentence I made a mistake, but I'm not sure.

_____ you mind if I opened the window? It's a bit stuffy in here.

I wrote:
Do you mind if I opened the window? It's a bit stuffy in here.

But in my book stand, I have to take "Would"

There is a sentence alike this with "Do".
What's right ? Or can I take both?

Do you mind...? (OK)
Would you mind...? (OK)

Both are OK. Both are polite. "Would" is more formal than "Do". Books, especially those written a long time ago, tend to focus on formal/polite speech. :wink:
