A missed letter in a word and an extra word don't really count?

A missed letter in a word and an extra word doesn't really count" ?

I say the latter is correct. What is the rule behind this?

Thanks.

The first one uses a plural verb, which goes with the two subjects: a missed letter and an extra word.

Why are the sentences given question marks?
