I read this sentence in an article. I am confused about the word "done" - past participle?

John said there was minor damage done to his vehicle and the mirror on the right passenger door was broken by the impact of his vehicle with Mary's bicycle.

How much damage was done?
How much damage was caused?
How much damage was suffered?

If you slightly change the words of the first part of the sentence, you would get:

John said that minor damage was done to his vehicle.....

"Done" in your example is the past participle of "do" used as a participial adjective.

'Done' does not mean 'deliberately damage' if that is what you are thinking.
It sounds strange (at least in my native language) to say 'do damage' but in English, it is not. It just means 'cause damage'.
