Hello can any one tell me that why newpapers used to say
"elect president barack obama" before he was sworn.
2)"select gathering was present on Sania's wedding."why not selected

1) I would have thought they referred to him as "President elect, Barack Obama". I believe this is the phrase used for someone after the official votes have been counted, but before he has been sworn in. He's been "elected" but the official ceremony hasn't yet taken place. (If this is wrong, I'm sure someone from America will correct me!)

2) "A select gathering" - here "select" is used as an adjective. It means "specially chosen" and usually refers to a small group of people who have been deemed important enough to attend an event.
