Can we use all of these nouns to avoid repeating the word "e-book reader"?

1)E-reader
2)E-book reader
3)Digital book reader
4)Electronic book reader
5)Reader

I find only "e-reader" common and natural in BrE. 1-4 would be understandable but not #5.

#5 is suggested by a native English teacher.

The teacher could be a speaker of a different variant. I too would use e-reader, though in context, #5 would also make sense to me.

I have a kindle, and that's how I always refer to it. You may similarly find that people use brand names to refer to their digital book readers. ;-)

Ems and I disagree with that teacher.

Out of context, we'd probably not be understood if we said 'For Christmas, I'm hoping to get cigars, a new sink plunger, a reader and a box of Black Magic'.

That's going to be the strangest wish list Santa's ever received when you post it off to the North Pole next week, Piscean! ;-)

Oops, sorry Rover. I think I saw Piscean's "like" and then wrote his username!

Or in general- people can google things on Microsoft Edge. The strongest brand often crosses across brands.

Are you, by any chance, a fan of JP Martin? This reads like one of his lists.
