Can one say:
1-I gave you those books to study algebra.
instead of:
2-I gave you those books for you to study algebra.


Can one say:
3-I read those stories to my children to learn good English.
instead of:
4-I read those stories to my children for them to learn good English.

Either is correct, but most people would insert the phrase 'for you' or 'for them' to avoid ambiguity.
