ENB 6 AQA English Language Acquisition/ change

Hi,

Just after some advice for last minute revision on this exam.

What are idiolectal features?
" " Collocations?
" " imperatives?

What is the definition for discourse, is that just a posh word for structure, eg : IRF?

I think im pretty clued up on the Language acquisition part, what advice does anyone have for Language change - what points should i focus on apart from Social context for both.

Idiolect is "the language or speech pattern of one individual at a particular period of life". (See: http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=idiolectal) So I guess it would have something to do with collocations.

These will give you some info on Discourse- there is more to it than just structure- it attempts to look at how meaning is built over suprasentencial stretches of language, which structure, apart from conjuncts, rarely does. ;-)

Mathew, I'm not familair with the course you're doung and the AQA website has little there that might help. Are there links that cvould give me some info, because it's hard to give much of an answer here. ;-)
