• 1. To look for somebody or something.
  2. To look out for somebody or something.

"To look for" means to search for.
"To look out for" means to take care of them.

I went to the park to look for my friend when I discovered that she wasn't at home.

My brother is younger than me so I always look out for him.

However (!) - you can also say that you are "looking out for" someone, if you are watching to see if you can see them.

I sat in a café and looked out for my friend because I'd heard she was in the area.
