I have several questions! Here they are:
I need to change the following sentences from passive to active:
(1)Passive- 'Were you taught to read by your parents?'
To make this an active sentence would I say 'Did your parents teach you how to read?
(2) Passive- 'Are we going to be met at the train station by your cousin?'
To make this an active sentence would I say, 'Is your cousin going to met us at the train station?'
(3) Passive- 'the bear was chased up a tree by a dog.'
To make active- 'the dog chased the bear up the tree.' (Is that correct?)
ALSO- Transitive and Intransitive Verbs
We are supposed to change the sentences to the passive if possible and identify the verbs as transitive or intransitive :
(1) Sentence- 'Did the Koreans invent gunpowder?' The transitive verb is invent-the object is gunpowder. So a passive sentence would be-
' Gunpowder was invented by the Koreans.' (Is this correct?)
(2) 'In the fairy tale, a princess kissed a frog.' The transitive verb is kissed and the object is frog. The passice sentence is, "'A frog was kissed by the princess."
3.) 'Many people saw the accident.' I can say 'the accident was seen by many people' and make it into a passive sentence but accident is not an object-and a transitive verb needs to be followed by an object or else it can't be used in the passive. Can you explain this sentence to me?
Active Versus Passive:
I need to add the correct form of the verb-active or passive-in the sentences:
Our morning paper (read) by over 200,000 people every day.
I would write, Our morning is read ...." I would make it in the active voice, right?
'Where are you going to go to school next year?'
Would I say, 'I have been accepted by Shoreline College.'
OR 'I was accepted by Shoreline College.'
'Roberto (write) this composition last week.'
Would I say, 'Roberto has written this composition last week.'
OR 'Roberto wrote this composition last week.'
'Since that time, it (be) the most famous landmark in Paris.'
Would I say, 'Since that time, it has been the most famous landmark in Paris.
