I am not a teacher, but have a question. An American friend today asked me why the English say, for exxample:

"I have this whole other passion; I always HAVE DONE, since I was little."

Why do they add "done"?

I was raised in the US, but live in England now, and could not answer him! Any suggestions?

Possibly because it's neater and easier than 'I have always had it'
