What is the best and/or most effective way to enrich one's vocabulary?

Reading helps, as does listening to CDs and DVDs because the languag is presented in a context. In order to retain the new vocabulary, you'll need to use it.

Thanks for the answer.
Well, I read a lot as well as listen to music and watching movies in English, but it seems to me a bit slow. Perhaps I'm just impatient :-D

Does anyone have some good old technique? :-D

Yes, you are too impatient. Learning a foreign language simply takes time and perseverence...and patience.
