Can u please tell me what does "environmentally sound" mean in this context?

The biggest issue as far as their shareholders and Wall Street was concerned in valuing thatcompany as a public stock was that they didn't own very much of their own timberland, and theywere very much reliant on contracts from the government - cutting contracts where they could cuttrees. It was all environmentally sound. It wasn't an idea that there was going to be raping of theland in the forest. It's forest management. But they were very much dependant on the contracts thatthey had, which meant that their resource was temporary.

Environmentally sound here indicates that the cutting of the trees is a normal part of forest management, not a simple cutting trees down just for profit.
