Are the following OK? My teacher said they are comma splices.


The city is often crowded with traffic, especially during rush hour it takes drivers three hours to reach their homes.
The city is often crowded with traffic, especially it takes drivers three hours to reach their homes during rush hour.

'Especially' is not a conjunction, so I think they are comma splices.
