Hi,
Does the sentence below sound grammatical enough? The sentence is written with if conditional.


Even if caning was allowed, the school should (have) take the (the or a) pupil to a clinic after having been caned for fear of infection such as this one. (This s just a general point of view with what if).

If caning were not allowed, they wouldn't be taking the pupil to a clinic, so the logic underlying the sentence is flawed.
