I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

Every time Peter visited his in-laws he had an impression they did not like him for some reason. He wondered if it was because of his working class origin, his low-paid job or his sloppy clothes. He wished he had to courage to look them in the eyes and ask them to tell him the truth.

Every time Peter visited his in-laws, he had [STRIKE]an[/STRIKE] the impression they did not like him for some reason. He wished he'd had [STRIKE]to[/STRIKE] the courage to look them in the eye and ask them to tell him the truth.
I would probably use "and confront them about it" instead of "and ask them to tell him the truth" in that sentence.

teechar,
I am wondering about "look in the eye."
Is there a difference between for example:
Bob look Anna in the eyes.
Bob look Anna in the eye.

I'm surprised the plural version even exists. It seems totally unnatural to me.

The plural version is 'Look into my eyes'.
