Main : In several studies, for instance, Internet users reported that they kept in touch with siblings and other relatives several times a week and felt email allowed them to keep in touch with family more than contact by phone (did).

Which of this analysis is correct before felt? The parallelism is much confusing.

1) In several studies, for instance, Internet users reported that they kept in touch with siblings and other relatives several times a week and (Internet users) felt email allowed them to keep in touch with family more than contact by phone (did).

2) In several studies, for instance, Internet users reported that they kept in touch with siblings and other relatives several times a week and (Internet users reported that they) felt email allowed them to keep in touch with family more than contact by phone (did).

Analysis 2 is correct. Internet users reported that they (a) kept in touch and (b) felt email allowed them to keep in touch.

The noun following several has to be plural. Write several studies.

I suppose the following changes will help to be less confusing.

In several studies, for instance, Internet users reported that they kept in touch with siblings and other relatives several times a week and that they felt email allowed them to keep in touch with family more than contact by phone (did).

That's much better. The final did is, in my opinion, necessary. This wording is a further improvement: email allowed them to keep in touch with family better than contact by phone did.
