[Vocabulary] fight with and play with

I've seen those expressions so many times (yes...I'm not an English native speaker).
But they look quite weired to me now.
So, I'd like to ask teachers.
Can 'I fought with Tom' mean 'I had a fight with Tom'?
In case of 'I fight with Tom for it'-Tom and I are on the same side.
Isn't it?

And second, can 'play with' be used like 'play with a friend'?

I fight with Tom for it- This is ambiguous to me- it could be that you're on the same side or on different sides and going for the same prize.
