[Grammar] Five minutes later than planned, Kevin opened the door

Are the following sentences grammatically correct?

"Five minutes later than planned, Kevin opened the door of his apartment, and saw his friend Tim sitting on his couch."

The second comma doesn't belong there. Without the comma, it's grammatically but not logically correct -- unless the plan was to open the door and see Tim on the couch.

GoesStation said to keep the first comma and remove the second. (You've done the opposite.)

When you reinstate the first comma and remove the second, your sentence will suggest that the plan was for Kevin to open the door and see Tim sitting on the couch at a certain time. Since seeing Tim on the couch was not part of the plan, you have to revise the sentence.
