Would you please explain what does it mean by "for brevity" in "The solution set can be indicated as {11/3} but for brevity we often omit the braces and just say "the solution is 11/3".

Source: Algebra and Trigonometry by Keedy/Bittinger.

Thank you.

Please look it up in an online dictionary. It is not difficult to understand.

It's shortness. Would you please compare these two. I think {11/3} was as short as 11/3.

1.The solution set can be indicated as {11/3} but for brevity we often omit the braces and just say "the solution is 11/3
2.The solution set can be indicated as {11/3} but for shortness we often omit the braces and just say "the solution is 11/3

Which one is better, idiomatic or formal etc?

Thank you.

brevity is okay. shortness doesn't work.

{11/3} is six characters long whereas 11/3 is only four.
