Hi teachers!

This is a quiz I found on the net. I understand (C) is the correct answer but wonder if (D) can be a choice. I somehow feel it's not but can't tell why. Will you tell me why?

Sarah and Jonathan will meet this Wednesday ------- their presentation.
(A) rehearse
(B) rehearsing
(C) to rehearse
(D) for rehearsing

No.

"Sarah and John will meet this Wednesday for a rehearsal of their presentation" would be the way to say it with the preposition "for".
C is the only correct answer.

 At a push you could even say "Sarah and John will meet this Wednesday for the rehearsing of their presentation", but I wouldn't like it; 'a rehearsal' is much better.

Thanks teachers!
From your posts I reckon a noun form (in this case, rehearsal) with an article is suitable after "for". Am I right??

 - here, that is. In many cases an article isn't needed (e.g. '... for safety's sake').
