What struck me the most is the contrast between the speed of MR {name of the person}'s trial set against the endless postponement "for that of the" Mumbai attacker. these are the lines from a newspaper.

I would like to know what is the way of using "for that of the"? Could you please tell me when and where can we use it?

Replace "that" with "the trial" and see if you find it easier to understand. You should then be able to see how it might be used in other (suitable) contexts.

It's a mistake. It should be '... the endless postponement of that of the Mumbai attacker'.
