Is it a sort of attenuation of 'fucking' (like 'darn' for 'damn') ?
Is it informal, mildly/very rude or offensive?
Could you give a typical example?

Hi,

'Darn' is least offensive. It is an expression of dissatisfaction, used even by children.

'Damn' is a curse, therefore not polite, not used by children at all (or at least it should not be)

The 'F' word, is very offensive (as you already know)
