I like his playing in a defensive position.

Does this sentence mean:
1-I like it when he plays in a defensive position.
2-I like (want) him to play in a defensive position
3-I like the way he plays in a defensive position, his style.

Actually I think it could mean all three. Are we allowed to use additional punctuation here, as this might help make any distinctions clearer. ;-)
