[Grammar] Gerund

There is no question of my failing in the exam.Solution : my -> me
But the Rule says : A pronoun(I) governing a Gerund(failing) should be in the Possessive case (my).So why have they used the Objective case(me)??

Both 'me' and 'my' are possible.
