hi,

i would like to know if i can use the gerund in situations like this:

"the took bad decisions, putting all the project in great risk."

"he made great administrative changes, allowing the company to achieve huge profits".

is this type of construction possible in english?

jc as far as I can tell, the -ing words you used in your examples are only verbs agreeing with nouns. If you take out and shuffled some words around you'd be left with:

"they were putting all the project in great risk."

"he was allowing the company to achieve huge profits".

A gerund is when an -ing word is used as a noun: e.g. some good writing, terrible driving, awful singing, etc.

Yes, you can. Also, you can use "at great risk" which is a normal collocation.

It should be "putting the whole project at great risk" not "all the project" or "in great risk"

Also, depending on whether you are speaking American English or actual English taking/making changes. If you are speaking American English you sould say "they took bad decisions" otherwise it is "They made bad decisions" this implies a very general scope though and I would be more inclined to say "they made some bad decisions, putting the whole project at great risk"

To be honest, I see no problem with the original sentence. There are many ways the same thing can be said/written, and this is one of them. I would hesitate to say that it should/ought never to be used.
