I don't know what is wrong in the sentence below...
"We cannot read a good and interesting book for an hour without being better and happier for it."

Why do you think there is something wrong with it?

An easier way to say this is "Reading a good, interesting book for an hour makes us better and happier."

But I don't find the original to have any obvious error.
