Would you please correct the mistakes in my sentence?

Gina spent the morning shelling maize cobs into a bucket to feed her chickens with it.

In American English she would shell corn for chicken feed into a bucket. The cob is the fibrous part left over after you remove the kernels. The complete assembly, so to speak, is an ear of corn. This may all be different in British English.
