Can you help me understand this:

The show was great and it finally felt like we had given God’s Hammer the slip and were settling in sans problems…..

Is it negative feeling?

(1) As I type this, no one else has replied, so may I be the first?

(2) I may be wrong, but I think (only think) that beautifully written

sentence means something like this:

(a) We enjoyed the show.

(b) We gave God's hammer the slip.

(i) To give the slip = to escape from someone/something.

(ii) God's hammer. This is only my (bad) guess:

(a) You know that a hammer hits nails.

(b) When we humans have bad luck, maybe we can say that God hammered us (the nails).

(iii) settled in sans problems.

(a) I don't know French, but I think "sans" = without.

(3) Therefore, I think this sentence reflects a very POSITIVE feeling.

(a) Something like:

We enjoyed the show because we felt that we had finally escaped from

bad luck and were able to relax without worrying about any problems.

Is that sentence from a Russian novel? Maybe someone who has read it

can give you a better interpretation than I did.

(1) Thanks for the link. I read it. It had a few "naughty" words. I

was shocked!!! (Just joking!!!)

(2) Maybe (maybe) I was almost right about the term "God's hammer."

I notice he says God's Hammer made another appearance:

the a/c caught fire.

(a) I had never heard of that term before your post. Maybe

another poster knows about it and will explain it to us.

(3) By the way, I think it is a good idea to always give the link in your

first post. Then people can read it before they try to answer.

(4) I'm glad that you young people enjoy that music. I'm an old man

whose favorite song dates from the 1960's.
