going forward

i read two sentences like this:

1) the service orders help show when the service is to be done going forward and provide a record of service done in the past.

2) spare parts at intervals will be replaced going forward.

it seems like "going forward" in the two sentences is redundant and not necessary. does it have any meaning?

I actually don't understand what 'going forward' means in either sentence, and I suspect no one else does either or you would have had a reply already. Either there is not enough context for me to understand or it is jargon of some sort. 'Going forward' usually means progressing in some way.
