Which is correct?

Her parent's arguments or

Her parents' arguments.

Is "parent's arguments" correct too? My understanding is the word "parent" means either a father or a mother. Perhaps it is more precise to say whether it's the father's or the mother's argument. I know the word is usually used in the plural sense, but is it absolutely incorrect to use parent in a singular sense?
