Is it possible to use the word "greeting" for a sad ocassion?

You should greet him condolence.

I am not sure if I can use that term since I associate greeting with positivity.

You should give him your condolences.
You should pass your condolences on to him.

When expressing my sympathy, do I always need to use the plural form, condolences?
Is there any occasion or context where I should use the singular, condolence?
