I heard a sentences that goes like this "I can go to the prom right now, because I am grounded" what does it mean: " to be punish".

grounded is an adjective. It describes the state of a person/thing. It comes from the noun 'ground', meaning surface we walk on; idiomatic expression comes from pilot-ese: To ground a plane (i.e., the plane stays on the 'ground', close to the airport.)

If a person is grounded, usually a teenager, it means, they a) can't leave their room or b) can't leave the house. They are not allowed to roam freely about the planet, sort to speak. They are grounded.

Can I use the form ground if is present form and grounded if is a past action, or it can only be grounded and that's it?

It's a predicate adjective, so it needs -ed. :wink:

Be grounded: is/am/are grounded; was/were grounded; will be grounded; had been grounded; have been grounded
