I was reading about hackneyed expressions and I saw this expression that doesn't have any equivalent meaning. It is "yours of the 30th". I hope you can help me by giving me the meaning of it and also some references of those expression. Thanks again.

As far as I know, that would mean a letter written or statement made on the 30th of a month. I would not consider this to be a hackneyed expression.

I also have the same problem about the article I read that has almost have the same forma. Below is the article.


Drear Sirs:

Yours of the 12th gratefully reveived and contents duly noted. We humbly beg to inform your good office that pursuant to the matter in question, you will find enclosed herewith disputed document.

Thanking you in advance for your consideration tendered in its reagard, we remain.

Yours truly,




So, what does the "the yours of the 12th" means?

So, what does the "the yours of the 12th" means?

Again I would say a letter or document written or dated on the 12th of a month. Now that I've seen it in context, it may well be a "hackneyed" expression. :wink:
