Hi, why did they put have in this sentence?.

The members of Strategic HQ are far too rational. And thus, they have completely missed the point of victory.

shouldn't it be had instead of have?

because they missed the point days ago, then this guy says "they have complete missed the point of victory".

Although they missed the point days ago, the guy is relating this to their present situation. That's why he uses present perfect.

Shouldn't it be "had" instead of "have" because they missed the point days ago, then this guy says "they have complete missed the point of victory"?
