Hello everyone,

I'd like to know the meaning of the phrase "hand-holding" when it is used in educational (e.g. teaching, learning) contexts.

Thanks a lot.

Picture, for example, helping a small child across a busy street. You would take their hand and lead them. Now apply this image to teaching someone. It means very individual attention given to a particular student and teaching them slowly, one step at a time, and not continuing with the next lesson until they completely understand the previous one.
