Note that you don't have to use "of alcohol". If you say "He drinks a lot ..." people will know what you mean.

Unless the context indicates otherwise "drinking" always refers to alcohol.

If someone says "He lost his job because he drinks too much," we can know that they aren't talking about lemonade.
