1 is the original. For this context, are headings and title synonyms?

No – and not just because headings is plural and title is singular.

Right. The title is the name of the entire document. A document can be divided into sections in lots of ways. One is to use headings and, sometimes, subheads. (The word headings is plural because there are always more than one.)

You can use Google to learn more about article formats.

I'm not sure that the sentence in the OP relates to writing articles. I think it's trying to say there are five classes, or kinds.
