Welcome to the forums.
Do you have any questions about English?
do you read in English every?
do you write?
do you have someone around you to correct you when you speak?
do you watch English channels?
make English your passion and you will make progress;-)
cheers
If you are a beginner, learn English with your ears, not with your eyes.
Any 5 years child, from any country which first language is English, can speak English fluently, without thinking, no grammar rules.
If we are talking about 5 years old children, then you are right. But the asking person is certainly not 5.
Ask someone, a cap, on the London streets...
- Please, sir, do you know what 'present continuous tense' is?
He will say:
- Ahh... I have no idea.
But he can speak fluently, effortlessly.
Because he grew up in an English speaking counrty but the asking person did not.
Actually, if you are a beginner, stay away from grammar books, grammar can hurt your learning process, focus on speaking. Feeling confortable about speaking? Start a reading program. Can you read simple texts?? ok, congratulations, start to write something and then, after all that, start a grammar study.
my sister went to Italy 10 years ago for holiday. She was not able to speak this language at all. She fell in love with someone who is now my brother-in-law. She has been living there until now. My point is: first year was a tough one for her. She was only listening to people being scared to say anything. She did not understand how Italian works so how could she talk? Once she invited me over to Italy. Before I went there I had studied an Italian grammar book for 6 months. Guess what? I was able to hold a basic conversation;-)
Ask a native speaker about his/her learning process. Most native speakers need grammar only to write not to speak.
Am I right?
Apreciate whether you teachers give us some ideas and proofread my text.
Thanks in advance
If you are a beginner, learn English with your ears, not with your eyes. I mean, listen to podcasts, audio cds, tv series, films.... many many times, do it till you get it easy, no longer than months you will be able to talk (not writing, by the way, forget about text books for now) automatically, without thinking, I mean, you will speak fluently, effortlessly.
Remember, fluency first, then reading, then after all this, writing.
Start by listening, however, If you can't understand 95% of what people are talking about, drop the material and find something easier. Still hard? Find someting even easier.
:up:That's such a nice comment! I completely agree with you!
Hello Phoenix,
In addition to marciobarbalho's suggestions:
You can watch a film with subtitle in your language. If you can't find one try the English subtitle. It is not that difficult.
If you're looking for a grammar book
I recommend:
Amazon.co.uk: Essential Grammar in Use Edition With Answers: A Self-Study Reference and Practice Book for Elementary Students of English: A Self-study Reference and ... Students of English (Grammar in Use): Raymond Murphy: Books
Don't give up!! ;-)
