What do you think are the advantages of living in a civilized society? Imagine what it would be like if you had to live in the woods all the time. What are the advantages of the life you live over that kind of life? Are there, by comparison, any drawbacks? What are they? If you were living in the woods all the time what would you not have that you have now?

:)

The advantages- technology, access to law, access to political participation, free press, human rights.

The disadvantages- some feel we have lost something of our innocence and primitive purity. I can't see much for this myself. With the advances that civilised (not too happy about this term, though) society, I know I would be dead. So would many others. Civilisation creates conditions for survival on a large scale.

Whatever its perceived problems, I, for one, would not want to have dysentry in a hut without law, telephones, takeaway food and access to medical care. Oh yes, in the dark because there is no electricity.

That is quite good.

I suspect that our poster is a young student who did not want to do much thinking.

What civilized means to me: social evolution; to enlighten, to bring out of a primitive way of thinking. to refine, to educate.

Some of the advantages of a civilized society: freedom of education, religion, choice, employment.

Some of the drawbacks: political power, military, class distinction.
