The advantages- technology, access to law, access to political participation, free press, human rights.
The disadvantages- some feel we have lost something of our innocence and primitive purity. I can't see much for this myself. With the advances that civilised (not too happy about this term, though) society, I know I would be dead. So would many others. Civilisation creates conditions for survival on a large scale.
Whatever its perceived problems, I, for one, would not want to have dysentry in a hut without law, telephones, takeaway food and access to medical care. Oh yes, in the dark because there is no electricity.
